Appointment Update

Went to the doc today. I was hoping they'd try to look for the gender (I'd been reading that's it's possible this early), but the ultrasound for that will be next month ( :-D ). All of my tests (including the echocardiogram, to check on my heart murmur) came back normal. Yay!

I got blood drawn for the quad test, which checks to see if there's a heightened possibility the baby having a genetic disorder or abnormality. It wont tell me if there is one, but I figured it couldn't hurt to see if anything weird is going on in there. I just hope it comes back normal too so I wont have to go through figuring out if anything is actually wrong.

15 Weeks ~ The Posted On Time Edition

HA! Babyzone agrees with me that there IS such a thing a Pregnancy Brain! I get very scattered and forgetful easily, and don't expect me to do any math in my head right now. Every time I try mental math I end up feeling like I just had the "blue screen of death" in my head.

I feel fat (don't hate because I'm naturally skinny). I know I'm supposed to gain weight and all that but I really feel like this bump is bigger than it is...I'm probably going to freak out when I can't see my feet anymore. It still doesn't even really qualify as a baby bump, but it's coming along...

Can't feel the baby yet, but it's GROWING (good job baby!)

This week in baby happenings:
  • Size: small apple or orange
  • Sensitivity to light...baby will move away from a light directly shined on him/her
  • Taste buds are forming
  • Air sacs in the lungs are getting help developing because the baby is moving amniotic fluid through it's nose and upper respiratory tract
  • It's possible to see the genitals in an ultrasound, if baby isn't being shy
That last one makes me VERY happy. I have an appointment Tuesday morning and it'd be really cool to find out then. I'm content with the fact that it may be next month, but I'm a little anxious because I feel like it's a boy (and not just because I want one, but I'm having some of the typical "you may be having a boy if..." things happen, and I had a dream it was a boy. I also had some other very strange dreams, but I just feel there's a boy in there, ok?). I have screwy intuition sometimes though, so we'll see. Either way, I will be very happy with a boy or a girl. I just want to know, lol.

I think I'm underestimating what a craving is. This constant need for bagels in the morning is pretty much a craving indicator, right? Very often, while driving on I-285 I smell a lot of different things...usually food items. Today I SWEAR I smelled a ham, egg, and cheese Croissan'Wich and then I knew I wouldn't be satisfied unless I got one. Well, Pregnancy Brain struck on the drive into Decatur and I didn't turn down the right street to go to Burger King and knew I would be late if I made a detour because I had to stop and get gas this morning. I went to Starbucks instead and got their ham, egg and cheese artisan sandwich (and they STILL made me late...the wenches didn't tell me it was ready). I must say, it's a decent replacement, but I wish I'd had some mayo and that it cost the same as the BK sammich. Oh well, the price of convenience I suppose.

14 Weeks

I think I'm slowly starting to show for real. It's weird. I still feel like it's just fat that I've acquired with my new eating habits, but there's discomfort from my pants. I'm regularly wearing a belly band now. I picked up the BeBand from Target because I'd been at work SUPER uncomfortable to the point where I'd just unbutton my pants while I worked...I'm glad I was wearing a sweatshirt, but I figured it was about time to find a better option.

Getting bigger...

It's about time for me to look into getting one of those maternity rings...

I'm in my second trimester! That means I'm a third of the way through, my body should start stabilizing and should be used to everything that's going on and all the extra hormones. Also, since the placenta is done forming and the baby can get nutrition and whatnot from it, my body isn't working so hard all the time now. All that means....*drumroll*...I'll have ENERGY again! I'm so happy that the super tiredness is slowly fading. I still need to sit if I've been standing for too long, but I actually have the desire to walk around now! It's going to be awesome when the pools open!

The baby at 14 weeks:

  • Wiggles a lot, but probably wont be felt yet
  • Is about 3.5 inches, or lemon-sized
  • Developing lanugo, or a downy-like covering of hair all over
  • Liver is making bile
  • Spleen starts producing red blood cells
  • Intestines are producing meconium, or the first stuff that comes out as waste (already trying to fill a diaper, yeesh)
  • Can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his/her thumb
There's so much happening in there so quickly...this really is a miracle I'm going through!

13 Weeks

So I'm lazy again. I could back date this post so it doesn't matter when I post it, but eh, I don't care. I get busy. And tired. Deal with it. :-)

I reached 13 weeks Friday last week. I was off in my calculations though, the 2nd trimester doesn't officially start until tomorrow.

This week:

  • Baby is about 3 inches, or the size of a peach
  • Fingerprints have formed
  • Toes and fingers are separating
  • Wrists and ankles have formed
  • If the baby is a girl, there are eggs in her ovaries (they grow up WAY too fast :-) )
  • Bones are forming in the arms and legs
  • Vocal cords are forming
For me: round ligament pain. I've definitely felt it and it's not fun. Basically, its a sharp pain in the abdomen area that goes away after a few minutes. It's a normal thing because of the growth and expansion of my uterus, but it isn't any fun.

I'm still tired as all whatever...and the Atlanta weather isn't making me happy at the moment. I want it to go ahead and warm up so I can wear loose, comfy clothes. It'd be nice if we could skip the crazy, nasty pollen though and move on to pool season as well.

Slowly getting rounder...and uncomfortable
