5 Months

Chloe is FIVE MONTHS old today! I'm going to try to not be extra gushy and whatnot about it this time, but no promises.

She didn't have a doctor's appointment this month, and hopefully we wont end up in the doctor's office for anything before her next appointment. She seems to be pretty healthy overall, which is great. She sniffles quite a bit though, and I try to get everything I can out but there's almost always something a little too deep to get out. I hope that's not a sign of anything bigger and is just one of those baby things. Like being spastic. Cute, but very spastic. :-)

Sleeping Beauty ^_^

Chloe has taken over her crib. I mean, it is hers and all. I knew that little kids slept wild, but nothing could have prepared me for all of the ways I find Chloe asleep. I'm sure they are only going to get funnier and funnier with time.

Baby food is awesome. Not only is it helping her sleep more, but she's put on a good deal of weight since we started. The weight has been helping her out a lot too...as soon as the new weight came in she got much better at "sitting" and "standing". She can almost sit up by herself, and she sits up pretty well and holds on tight when you carry her. She can grab things with much more conviction and purpose now as well. I'm just glad she hasn't started grabbing for the spoon when I feed her! So far she has had rice cereal, carrots, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash. She appears to like everything except for the carrots. I wasn't so sure about the squash, but it reminds me of the sweet potatoes. Making your own baby food must be the key, because I like her food more than she does! I think I'm going to eat it all up myself every time I make some more for her. It seems like the store-bought stuff just doesn't do it like this fresh stuff (on tv anyway, I'd never fed a baby before I fed my own). We're going to keep making her food (it's easy and CHEAP) and should hopefully start her on a fruit or two soon.

As mentioned, she's a much better sleeper now most of the time. I can usually get her to stay asleep from about 10pm or so until noon, which seems a bit odd to us, but we are enjoying sleeping again. At least those times are more normal towards the beginning of the week (after she's spent the weekend seeing her grandparents and/or others) and then she starts waking back up somewhere between 2-4 at the end of the week. It's nice to have some idea of her sleep schedule, even when it doesn't pan out exactly the way I want it to.

She's a lot more expressive now. She used to fling herself around before, but that was more out of her head being to big/heavy. Now she flings herself around because she can. Her little baby laughs have turned into big baby laughs and giggles and screams. We're pretty certain that she knows when we are talking about her or to her, even though she ignores it most of the time. She's also gotten a lot more comfortable with her environment and just laying somewhere and seeing what's around. Her monkey beanie baby has become her best friend (besides all the big people who do everything for her ^_^).

I think we're both excited and terrified for the day she starts moving around on her own for real. We need to get our apartment ready but there are still so many things she could get into. Like the fireplace. I guess she'll be hearing the word 'no' a lot soon...and then we'll get it back once she learns how to say it. I can't wait to see what I'll be working with when her hair comes in for real. I'm pretty sure she'll have a curl pattern that's looser than mine, which means I'll be able to do her hair without getting super tired. I really hate grooming, so I'm not above getting her hair locked when she's little. I do feel some kind of way about doing it, but only because my mom got my hair relaxed and then I had to grow it all back out when I wanted it to be natural. The good thing about locs though, is that you can let them grow out for a really long time and comb them out if you want, and I wouldn't be putting potentially dangerous chemicals on her scalp either. Everything I use so far is natural and I do a good bit of research on it before I use on myself or anyone else in the house. I'm glad I can do these things for us and hopefully keep everyone nice and healthy.

I can't wait until the earth heats up again. Chloe got a swimsuit already and I can't wait to use it!
